Some 50 Governments from all over the world discussed the question of aging at the thirty‐ninth session of the General Assembly held at United Nations Headquarters from 18 September to 18 December 1984. Thirty of these Governments co‐sponsored resolution 39/25 on the question of aging, which was introduced on the initiative of the Government of Austria and adopted by consensus by the Assembly. The resolution requests the Secretary‐General, inter alla , to continue his efforts for the implementation of the Plan of Action at the national, regional and international levels, to continue to promote the Trust Fund for Aging so as to assist countries in formulating and implementing policies and programmes for aging, and to ensure a well coordinated system‐wide response in implementing the provisions of the Plan of Action. In addition, representatives of many Governments presented views on the question of aging in their individual statements to the General Assembly.
