Summary In summary, both the Senior Citizens and the Chinese elderly were socially active, in average to good health, reasonably content with their life styles and were coping well in their post retirement years. In contrast, both of the other groups were socially isolated from the general community, were severely emotionally and materially deprived, were in poor health, not happy with their circumstance, and were not coping well at all. There are many questions not addressed in this material. For example, what was it that caused the frail renters and the homeless to live in their present circumstances, what can and should be done for them, are there any frail ethnic elderly living in substandard rooms or homeless, why are so many Anglo‐Australians living alone and not so the Chinese, and so on, and in particular, just what relationship is there between our survey and the rest of the population in those categories?
