A symposium on the ethical problems in teratology was held to consider the problems that may occur in the research and therapy of the medical sciences. Selected titles of the symposium were as follows: 1. Some cytogenetical aspects of artificial fertilization. 2. Abortion: Ethical issues and Japanese attitudes. 3. Ethical problems of congenital malformations; “fetal therapy in utero” 4. Ethics in autopsy of human fetuses and newborns with congenital anomalies. 5. Genetic counseling. 6. Logic and ethics of learning (Gakumon). These broad problems were discussed in all their aspects.
