This article argues that Mary Sidney Herbert, Countess of Pembroke deploys revision as a central aspect of her poetics, and that this habit is not so much the consequence of indecision on her part, but the application of methods and techniques suggested for the improvement of female piety in a range of texts by early modern commentators.
