Medications used for the management of the Alzheimer's patient are of two types: agents prescribed for treatment of cognitive disorders and agents used for symptomatic relief of mood disorders. This article reviews the mechanisms of action and side‐effects of the more common of these agents. In addition, dental management of the Alzheimer's patient is discussed in relation to specific medications being taken.
