Kingella kingae is a rarely isolated opportunistic pathogen in the family Neisseriaceae. Thirteen strains of this organism, including six strains isolated in Denmark, were characterized. They formed a homogeneous group of small, non‐motile, fastidious Gram‐negative rods which were beta‐haemolytic, oxidase positive, catalase negative and saccharolytic. Acid was produced from glucose and maltose. Growth was most pronounced aerobically but corroding colonies increased considerably in size during anaerobic incubation.
