Analyses of complement components in plasma from a patient with meningococcal septicemia showed abnormally low levels of C3 and properdin. C4 remained within the normal level. Activation of C3 proactivator and conversion of C3 was shown. Except these findings, which are in agreement with activation of complement by endotoxin by the alternate pathway, a marked decrease in Clq was observed.
