By means of double diffusion‐in‐gel, immunoelectrophoresis and crossed immunoelectrophoresis some Proteus strains were examined. In the strain O3:H1 the O3, H1 and a protein antigen common to many members of Enterbacteriaceae were identified. An additional 30–40 antigens were noted. No K antigen could be discerned. Forty‐nine Proteus strains of eleven different O groups isolated from patients showed a very similar electrophoretic mobility of the O antigens as compared to the O antigens of Proteus standard strains.
