Variation in the expression of blood group antigen A of oral squamous epithelial cells was demonstrated by serial two fold titrations with immunoperoxidase (IP) and immunofluorescence (IF) staining methods. Cells from 6 non‐secretor individuals and 15 secretor individuals, all belonging to blood group A 1 , were tested. Cells from non‐secretor individuals reacted weakly with IF staining and negatively with IP staining. Cells from secretors reacted with both staining methods and with much higher endpoint titres than the non‐secretor cells. A considerable variation in endpoint titres was found in both groups.
