The separation of rubella haemagglutination‐inhibition (HI) antibodies and haemagglutina‐tion (HA) inhibitors by hydroxyl apatite chromatography and sucrose gradient centrifuga‐tion has been studied. Both methods permitted inhibitors and antibodies to be demonstrated separately. In hydroxyl apatite chromatography all inhibitors were found in the β‐lipo‐protein fractions. The usefulness of these methods in cases of suspected false positive and false negative reactions is discussed.
