The proliferative and plaque forming cell (PFC) responses in the spleens of control‐irradiated and bursectomized‐irradiated chickens 4 days after a single i.v. injection of sheep erythrocytes (SRBC) were studied. Both the proliferative and the PFC response was deficient in the bursectomized‐irradiated chickens. The “background” anti‐SRBC PFCs found in the spleens of unimmunized control‐irradiated chickens were absent in bursectomized‐irradiated animals.
