SUMMARY Suspensions of streptococci (group A) autoclaved at 120°C for 2 hours give lower agglutination titers in human sera than suspensions autoclaved at 127°C for 2 hours. The difference is most pronounced when strains rich in M antigen are employed. As far as these strains are concerned, part of the agglutination‐inhibiting factor in the suspensions autoclaved at 120°C is destroyed by trypsinizing. It is concluded that in the examination of sera for group‐specific antibody‐content, cell suspensions heated to 127°C for 2 hours should be preferred as antigen.
