Michalsen, H. and Bergan, T. (Departments of Paediatrics and Microbiology, Aker sykehus and Department of Microbiology, Institute of Pharmacy, University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway). Pharmacokinetics of antibiotics in children with cystic fibrosis with particular reference to netilmicin. Acta Paediatr Scand 1982; suppl 301: 101‐105. — The pharmacokinetics of netilmicin has been studied in 8 children with cystic fibrosis given single doses of 3 and 5 mg/kg body weight as bolus intravenous doses. The serum levels were in proportion to the dose. The serum half‐life was significantly longer (p<0.01) after the higher dose. The apparent distribution volumes were indistinguishable. It is suggested that doses of 4 mg/kg given every 8 h appear suitable in children with cystic fibrosis and that serum levels of antibiotics need to be monitored in patients with cystic fibrosis.
