. Two boys with mitochondrial cytopathy, short stature and growth hormone deficiency showed a significant growth response to human growth hormone. Although not all short patients with mitochondrial cytopathy are growth hormone deficient the association of these conditions should be recognised so that the treatable endocrine disorder can be positively excluded.
