1 3 298 injuries were originally registered in the 12 265 accidents. After revision, the injuries were described with 1 3 160 diagnoses. The revision was necessary since some N-codes used in the ICD (73) cover a multiplicity of diagnoses in different parts of the body. Rutherford and Ferguson (78) described the problem of multiple classification. They stated that nit is in the nature of the injury that multiple classification is almost the rule, rather than the exception)). However, nwe used less and less, and finally abandoned all the sections in which single numbers cover a multiplicity of injuries on different sides. Any cases so classified are virtually lost to subsequent analysis)).
