Summary A newborn infant of a diabetic mother is described, suffering from a renal vein thrombosis with hematuria and a palpable mass in the flank. The general condition was unaffected and the symptoms disappeared after two weeks. Nephrectomy was performed after four months because of an arterial hypertension and a pathologic intravenous urography. In these cases a high hematocrit value and a hypercoagulability may play a great part of the pathogenesis. Therefore venesectio and treatment with heparin may be of value.
