Complete data on height and weight were obtained in 130 cases, (70 M, 60 F). Their average height was 170.2 cm for men (s = 7.1, e($ = 0.9) and for women 161.0 cm (s = 5.2, e ( 5 ) = 0.7). These figures have been compared with the normal values given by BROMAN et al. for a Swedish, and B ~ E et al. for a Norwegian population of various ages. BROMAN’S mean values a t the age of 20, are for men 178.2 cm (s = 6.0) and for women 166.0 cm (s = 5.1), i. e. in both cases higher than those of our diabetic material. B ~ E found the following mean values for subjects in the age group 25-29 years, which corresponds more closely to the average age in our material : for men 175.7 cm (s = 6.0) and for women 163.0 cm (s = 5.6), i. e. values that are also higher than the mean values for the diabetic material. Statistical comparisons between the materials (t-test) showed highly significant differences, in relation to BROMAN’S figures for both men and women; and in relation to BDE’s figures, a highly significant difference for men, significant for women. This general retardation of growth is shown also in fig. 8. The material has here been divided into sigma groups based on BROMAN’S normal values. Nine men (12.9 yo) and two women (3.3 yo) fall below the lower limit (3 6). No explanation was found for the dwarfism of these 11 patients. They did not deviate from the rest of the material with regard to age at onset, duration, chronological age, food habits, blood sugar level, insulin requirements, or extent of vascular damage. In no case was the syndrome observed, described by MAURIAC : retardation of growth, hepatomegaly, hypogonadism and obesity. Body weight in the material was evaluated on the basis of the so-called standard weight (cf. FRISK et al.), i. e. body height in cm minus 100. In 10 men (14.3 yo) and in 20 women (33.3 yo) body weight exceeded the standard weight, see fig. 9. If, like FRISK et al., one considers that there is overweight when body weight exceeds standard weight by more than 10 per cent, then 4 men (5.7 %) and 8 women (13.3 yo) were overweight. These figures are of the same order of magnitude as those found by FRISK et al., for 365 normal individuals between the ages of 20 and 39 years. For the material as a whole however, the mean body weight was below standard weight, namely for men 8.3 per cent (s = 8.7) and for women 3.4 per cent (s = 12.3). Thus in relation to standard weight, the men were somewhat thinner than the women; this difference between the sexes was statistically significant. In order to make it possible to judge the patients’ body proportions, the so-called DAVENPORT index was calculated, i. e.
