Summary The significance of spike foci in EEG in patients who have had no clinical epileptic seizures has been considered as questionable. Three cases are reported in which EEG showed spike foci 2 weeks, 5 weeks and 2½ years before the occurrence of the first‐clinical epileptic seizure. These observations indicate that spike foci shown in EEG represent an actual danger of later clinical epileptic seizures.
