Intensive collection of germplasm in southern Italy revealed living material of Aegilops fragilis Pari. Preliminary results of biosystematic studies, mainly morphological examination and chromosome banding, on four races of Ae. ventricosa Tausch, indicated that the material investigated should belong to that species. The geographically isolated material from South Italy can be considered as a useful genetic resource for wheat breeding.
