Eleven samples of house sparrows (Passer domesticus) were taken from the area around Bergen, and analysed by starch gel electrophoresis and isoelectric focussing. Eleven loci were found to be polymorphic. Samples taken from larger populations were found to be more similar than those from smaller populations. Genetic distance analysis suggests that the Norwegian populations have been isolated from southwestern Europe for about 10,000 years.
