R0NNE, M, 1984. Fluorouracil synchronization of human lymphocyte cultures. Induction of high resolution R‐banding by simultaneous exposure to 5‐bromodeoxyuridine/Hoechst 33258 in vitro. — Hereditas 101: 205–208. Lund, Sweden. ISSN 0018–0661. A high resolution R‐banding technique is presented. The technique is based on a fluorouracil (FU) S‐phase block released by simultaneous exposure to 5‐bromodeoxyuridine (BUdR) and Hoechst 33258 (H) 6Vz h prior to cell harvest. It is simple, reliable, and ensures mitotic index corresponding to that of the methotrexate (MTX) method. After FPG‐staining well defined R‐banding is observed in highly elongated prometaphase and prophase chromosomes.
