Data are presented for a new property of interferon — the ability to reduce the quantity of chromosome aberrations induced by physical and chemical mutagens. The aberrations prompted under the influence of γ‐rays are significantly diminished at the 6th hour of incubation of the cells in the presence of interferon. The aberrations induced by UV‐rays decrease significantly at the 18th hour of the interferon action. Increase of aberrations after ethyleneimine treatment of cells is stopped at a lower, 6th hour level, when interferon is added. Considerations for possible mechanisms of the antiaberration effect of interferon are expressed.
