A cyclically density‐varying population of field vole, Microtus agrestis L., has been investigated for allozyme variation. Few consistent alterations in allele frequencies accompanying the density fluctuations were observed. The average heterozygosity, H, calculated on a total of 18 loci was 0.19. Alterations in the proportion of observed heterozygotes, as well as a varying excess of homozygotes were obtained, both accompanying the density alterations.
