Feulgen‐fluorescence studies of dividing vegetative nuclei in Achlya radiosa Maurizio revealed in early division stages a characteristic change of nuclear shape from spherical to elongated. Later the chromatin becomes rod‐shaped with characteristic brighter fluorescence in the middle part. The two oppositely arranged central portions of the chromatin rod move terminally and the nucleus assumes dumbbell shape. The chromatin halves separate further and the two daughter nuclei are formed. The observations are in agreement with an intranuclear mitosis.
