DNA was extracted from the frozen liver of two whale species: Balaenoptera acutorostrata (minke whale) and B. physalus (fin whale). Isopycnic centrifugation of these DNAs to equilibrium in neutral CsCl shows a heavy component in B. acutorostrata with a buoyant density of 1.710 g/ml. In the other species there is no separate component but the main band DNA is asymmetric being wider on the heavy side.
