Needles and seeds from 15 different clones of Picea abies were used in analyses of esterase isozymes. Four polymorphic esterase loci could be detected in preparations of endosperms and one locus in needle extracts, using starch‐gel electrophoresis. The inheritance of isozymes in the latter locus was studied in 11 crosses between the clones. Although some obscurities in the inheritance of esterase isozymes are noted, the major part of the crosses indicates a Mendelian inheritance from parental clone to progeny.
