The chromosome numbers of six species belonging to Cyprinidae have been studied. Abramis ballerus (L) has 2n = 52 and an N.F. value of 70, Abramis brama (L) 2n = 52 and an N.F. value of 82. Aspius aspius (L) 2n = 52 and an N.F. value of 94, Rutilus rutilus (L) 2n = 50 with an N.F. value of 76, Scardinius erythrophtalamus (L) 2n = 48 with an N.F. value of 90 and Tinca tinca 2n = 48 with an N.F. value of 84. Normal meiosis with only bivalents has been observed in Abramis ballerus, Abramis brama , and Aspius aspius .
