Estimation of heritability of recombination frequencies is valuable per se and as a preparation for selection experiments. However, for characters like recombination frequency each measurement is subject to binomial variance. This leads to a quite important underestimation of the heritability. Two small tests led to low and nonsignificant estimates for heritability of recombination frequency in tested regions in populations synthesized from four isogenic stocks. However, the bias inherent in these tests may have reduced the heritability estimates to 1/2 of their “true” values.
