Polymorphism at the Est‐6 and Est‐C loci was studied in three different populations of Drosophila melanogaster from northern Greece. In the Est‐6 system no significant differences were found between the populations from Greece, while there were distinct differences between the populations from Greece and those from most other parts of the world. In the Est‐C system there were significant gene‐frequency differences between the Greek Drosophila populations. The possibility was discussed that variable use of organophosphoric insecticides in the three populations might have had a selective effect on the Est‐C polymorphism.
