The stemline karyotype of an isoantigenic variant of the mouse sarcoma MSWB is described. In comparison with the original MSWB tumor, which had largely normal mouse karyotype, the variant studied, an ascites tumor called MSWBS, exhibits striking chromosomal changes. Its stemline number is 29 with 10 biarmed and 19 one‐armed chromosomes. It was shown by measurements that, in addition to the Robertsonian centric fusion process underlying the reduction in chromosome number, also changes of cryptostructural character have taken place. The karyotype is discussed in relation to other mouse‐cell populations with high proportions of biarmed chromosomes, and also in relation to the natural mouse species, the tobacco mouse, which karyotypically differs from the ordinary mouse in much the same way as MSWBS differs from the original MSWB.
