The hexaploid cranberry species, Vaccinium hagerupii , was studied cytologically. In the meiotic prophase of this plant some hitherto undescribed structures were demonstrated, which obviously play a part in chromosome pairing. Secondary pairing was shown to occur between pachytene bivalents. The intertelomeric fibres were visible at most stages of both mitosis and meiosis. A brief botanical comment is made, and the origin of this polyploid species is discussed.
