Background/aims: Limb oedema is of major importance in the development, healing rate and reoccurrence of chronic venous insufficiency and venous leg ulcer. The pathophysiology of limb oedema, and methods of measuring and managing oedema are revisited. Conclusion: Despite oedeme being a symptom of major importance in venous leg ulcer, our knowledge is still limited. Research and renewed clinical interest in this symptom is predicted in the future.
