A continual debate concerning our journal, its policy, quality and content, price, even layout and justification, is important. It reflects the existing interest in the journal. It is important to bear in mind the history of the SCANDINAVIAN JOURNAL OF MEDICINE AND SCIENCE IN SPORTS. The various Nordic sports medical and scientific societies formed the Scandinavian Foundation of Medicine and Science in Sports. The goal was to make Scandinavian sports medicine more visible and to enhance the progress of the discipline. According to the statutes of the Foundation, the primary means of achieving this are to publish the journal and to arrange scientific congresses. Thus, the subscribers not only receive a scientific journal but more broadly help to promote interest in and thereby enhance the potential for the development of the sports sciences in the Nordic countries. The key issue worth debating is the content of the journal. As stated in the statutes of the Foundation, the main purpose of the journal is to publish original articles in the field of medicine and science in sports. In previous editorials I have, however, expressed the desire to supplement this with other types of scientific articles. The traumatological coverage of the journal has S
