General and alveolar osteopenia was provoked in young rats by Ca and /or deficiency. The alveolar bone density was assessed histometricall, the alveolar crest height between lower molars 1and 2 histometrically and/or radiographically. During the periods of the experiments no change fo the alveolar crest height was induced by the osteopenia. This fact is discussed against the background fo microscopic observations and previous reports.
