The levels of tissue and bacterial hyaluronidases in human whole mouth saliva samples have been measured during the menstrual cycle; the level of tissue hyaluronidase falling at menstruation and the level of bacterial hyaluronidase showing no significant change. The change in tissue hyaluronidase activity in the saliva is considered to be related to changes in progesterone levels in the body during the menstrual cycle.
