Jünger's expressed intention notwithstanding, his essay Der Arbeiter which appeared in 1932 is a poetic rather than a theoretical statement about a nascent society. Its terminology and ideas stem to a large extent from German literary and aesthetic tradition, which illustrates the primacy of aestheticism in the essay. Only from this point of departure may the political ramifications of the work be evaluated. ≫Es zählte zu den Maximen des Prokonsuls, daß echte Politik nur möglich sei, wo Dichtung vorausgegangen war.≪
