— The distribution of carbohydrates in paraffin sections of jaws from young rats was investigated with various histochemical methods (PAS, alcian blue, aldehyde fuchsin, and metachromatic staining) in combination with blocking, unblocking and extraction experiments. Glycoproteins and glycosaminoglycans, predominantly chondroitin sulfates, were found abundantly in teeth and surrounding structures. The results are discussed and correlated to recent biochemical findings.
