Benign tumors of smooth muscle origin are rare in the oral cavity. This paper reviews 67 cases from the literature and six previously unpublished cases of oral leiomyoma. Tongue, hard palate and buccal mucosa are the most common sites of this lesion and the vascular leiomyoma or angiomyoma is the predominant histologic type.
