The mandibles of 27 male and 25 female common marmosets ( Callithrix jacchus ) with an age range of 1 day to < 12 years have been studied using radiographs and osteometric techniques. The rate and magnitude of dimensional changes in the mandible of this nonhuman primate during the neonatal period, infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood are described. Distance growth curves indicate that active growth of marmoset mandible ceases during the last 6 months of the third postnatal year.
