The present management of onco-haematologic patientsmay require continuous infusion of cytotoxicdrugs, use of drugs or concentrated ion solutionswhich are toxic for the endothelial wall of small vessels,infusion of large amounts of antibiotics or antimycotics,red blood cell and platelet transfusion,and not rarely parenteral nutrition. Such a complextherapy needs a vascular access by a central veincatheter (CVC) insertion. Many types of CVC areavailable at present: tunnelled Hickman or Hickmanlikecatheters, subcutaneous ports, tunnelled catheterswith Groshong valve, external untunnelledcatheters
