The reliability of the author's method for quantitation of erythropoiesis using 59 Fe was tested by simultaneous studies of mean erythrocyte life span with DF 32 P. 13 patients with common haematological disorders were studied. The mean erythrocyte life span as determined with 59 Fe did not differ from that determined with DF 32 P. Differences exceeding 10 % were found in only 3 cases. The derangements observed in haematological disorders corresponded well with earlier observations on large materials and with other methods. Thus the method is a reliable substitute for more laborious techniques when erythropoiesis is to be quantified.
