When the factor XIII concentration in plasma was less than 25–30 % of normal, clots made from citrated plasma by addition of thrombin (but without addition of calcium) dissolved completely in 5 M urea. Since, partial deficiency in factor XI11 may contribute to bleeding, the present procedure might be useful as a screening for such deficiencies.
