N‐terminal amino acid analysis was used to study the influence of degradation products D and E on the thrombin‐fibrinogen reaction. Product E inhibited thrombin activity, but no release of fibrinopeptides was observed during its incubation with thrombin. The thrombin inhibitory effect of product E was competitive, immediate, non‐progressive, and not potentiated by heparin. Product D inhibited fibrin polymerization only. Even this inhibition was found to be competitive.
