Detachment of parts of cytoplasm (clasmatocytosis) from lymphocytes was observed in the bone marrow of normal and sublethally irradiated rats. Though the function of the detached parts remains to be established, it is postulated that clasmatocytosis may represent a secretory function of the lymphocyte. The phenomenon is compared to clasmatocytosis in plasma cells thought to represent one way of secretion of immunoglobulins.
