In 6 patients with diffuse intravascular coagulation (DIC) (3 of them on long term anticoagulant treatment with warfarin sodium), low Thrombotest values and a discrepancy between Thrombotest and Normotest was found. During heparin treatment, the Thrombotest values rose and the Thrombotest‐Normotest discrepancy decreased. These observations indicate that Thrombotest may be a sensitive indicator of consumption coagulopathy. A rise in Thrombotest during heparin treatment probably substantiates this concept.
