Red cell glutathione reductase activity has been investigated in 79 patients suffering from chronic pyelonephritis or chronic glomerulonephritis. Of the two groups of patients considered, those in the first group were anaemic and had marked renal failure, while those in the second had a haemoglobin equal or above 11 g/100 ml with in most cases slight renal function impairment. Enzyme activity was found significantly above normal in nephropatic subjects, being significantly higher in anaemic than in non‐anaemic patients.
