Platelet survival time and platelet counts were studied in different stages of Hodgkin's disease. Platelet half‐life was significantly shortened, most pronounced in the generalized form of the disease. Platelet production and consumption was normal or slightly increased in localized disease, decreased in generalized disease with bone marrow involvement. Thus, thrombocytopenia in advanced Hodgkin's disease is due to decreased platelet production and reduced platelet survival. Radiation and chemotherapy had no influence upon platelet survival but reduced platelet production and consumption. Homologous platelets survived no longer than the patients' own platelets, and prednisone had no effect on platelet survival.
