The thrombopoietic activity of the plasma of children suffering from cyanotic congenital heart disease in recipient mice has been studied. Considerable activity was found in each thrombopenic patient and in more than half of the cases with normal thrombocyte count as well. There was no direct correlation between the platelet count and haemoglobin and plasma thrombopoietic activity. Increased activity was found in every patient in whom the arterial blood O 2 saturation was below 80%.
