Although the physico‐electronic principle on which detection of cells is based in the Toa counter differs from that used in the Coulter counter, results of erythrocyte counts made with the two counters show a similar degree of precision. The two counters are about equivalent in terms of reproducibility of leucocyte counts. The dielectric constant of erythrocytes and leucocytes in the fluid used changes so little in 24–48 hours, that it is possible with the Toa counter (as it is with the Coulter counter) to count these cells within his period.
