Substitution of 6 per cent dextran solution in saline or 5.5 per cent glucose solution or 7 per cent human plasma albumin in saline for autologous plasma in the culture medium was tested by determination of 3 H‐thymidine incorporation in the nucleic acid fraction of lymphocytes cultured in vitro with phytohaemagglutinin or tuberculine. The different substitutes provided a medium which permitted uptake of 3H‐thymidine in the same range as autologous plasma.
